Shortlisted for PoppyHarp Composer Project 2024
Programme Note:
Beginning as sketches during my time at MusicFest Aberystwyth 2023, these pieces first brought smiles during an open workshop led by Catrin Finch. Inspired by this reception, I felt it was only right to develop them into a compete collection of miniatures. In mid-April 2024, I was thrilled to be selected as one of several composers for PoppyHarp Composer Project 2024, where I had the opportunity to collaborate with Bethan Conway. Her insight helped refine and expand the collection, ensuring it was both beautiful and idiomatic, allowing it to sit amongst the growing contemporary classical repertoire for such an ethereal instrument.
Water miniatures is a collection of five pieces - Defnyn/Droplet, Crychdonnau/Ripples, Afon/River, Tonnau/Waves and Cefnfor/Ocean - each aiming to explore different characteristics of the harp and to depict the journey of water along the River Ystwyth towards the Atlantic Ocean.
