I'm really pleased to have something in the diary so early in 2026! I have been selected as one of six composers to write for the cello as part of The Presteigne Festival. A massive thank you to Cheryl Frances-Hoad for making me aware of the opportunity and for being kind enough to provide a reference for this opportunity.
What is Presteigne Festival's 'Compose for Cello' project?
The Presteigne Festival has recently announced its ‘Compose for Cello’ project – an opportunity for six early career composers to work with cellists Gemma Rosefield and Clare O’Connell, and to be mentored by Mark Boden. This scheme is supported by Tŷ Cerdd and the PRS Foundation Talent Development Network.
Each composer will be afforded a small commission fee of £400 for a short (up to 5-minute) work for solo cello. There will be mentoring/workshop sessions in Cardiff and Presteigne, as well as online. After the final workshop with Clare O’Connell in Presteigne – in April, as part of our ‘Springboard’ Weekend – each of the pieces will be videoed and shared via our website.
