Matthew joins Making Music's Adopt a Music Creator Scheme

Just as I thought I would be entering a cooling off period having had several successfully commissions and subsequent performances over the past couple of months, I am thrilled to have been selected to join Making Music's Adopt a Music Creator Scheme 2026 where I will be paired up and commissioned by Halstead Choral!
Also based in Essex, I can't wait to get started and write some more choral music - an area of composition which is still full of hesitations and unknowns to me!
What is Adopt a Music Creator?
Making Music’s newly revised Adopt a Music Creator subsidy offers £1000 to support commissioning a new piece of music from a music creator in the first seven years of their professional career.
Groups that are interested in commissioning can put in an application for the subsidy. It doesn’t matter if they already have a well-formed idea of the commission and composer they want, or if all they know is that they want to commission new music.
Groups choose the music creator that they would like to work with (providing that they are in the first seven years of their professional career).
The £1000 will be given directly to the group. It is unlikely that your commission will cost £1000 exactly. The purpose of this money is that, if the commissioning fee is higher, it can be used as a subsidy to make it less of a financial risk for your group or be used as match funding for further funding applications.
